Akemi Ichise is President + CEO, Japan and a recognized strategist with the expertise required to help Japanese and global clients drive value regionally and internationally. She advises companies in the B2B technology, consumer products, food and healthcare industries.
Prior to joining Allison+Partners, Akemi was President and CEO of Focused Communications, a public relations agency she co-founded that specialized in corporate communications, consumer marketing, public affairs and reputation management for clients in the technology, healthcare, government and consumer goods industries.
She was previously director of the communications services department at PRAP Japan Inc., where she led the IT, healthcare and food practice groups. She was also a vice president at IPR-Shandwick (Weber Shandwick Worldwide), leading the agency’s IT team working with leading global technology brands.
Akemi is the executive director and committee chairman of the international and networking committee of The Public Relations Society of Japan. As executive director she promotes the importance of public relations to Japanese global business and educates PR professionals on best practices. She is also a member of the Japan National Press Club, Tokyo Chamber of Commerce and Industry and has served as IPRA (International Public Relations Association) Council as National Chair for Japan.
Who has had the biggest impact on your career and why?
A thrilling encounter with the “semiconductor” changed not only my career but also my perspective of the world. I found that the “semiconductor” changes the world as the trigger of electronic revolution.
What’s your biggest success?
The country branding of Switzerland in Japan: “More than Mountain” to introduce contemporary Switzerland.
What was the best advice you ever received?
“Don’t give up!”
